FAQ

Questions, answered honestly.

What QLumis is

What makes QLumis different from ChatGPT?

General AI assistants are usually session-based — they start fresh and forget. QLumis is designed around private longitudinal memory, consent-gated identity features, and continuity across time, so your companion carries context from one conversation to the next.

Can I use QLumis without voice cloning?

Yes. Voice cloning is entirely optional. You can use text only, or a standard non-cloned voice, and never touch the cloning features.

Can I use QLumis only as a private memory assistant?

Yes. Many people use QLumis simply as a private, no-ads companion that remembers them over time, with no loved-one or legacy features involved.

Do I need special hardware?

No. QLumis runs in the browser today on a laptop, tablet, or phone.

How do I talk to QLumis out loud?

Inside a conversation, tap the round voice button — the sound-wave icon to the right of the message box, the same place other assistants put it — and QLumis starts listening and talks back in a natural, hands-free conversation. Tap it again to stop. You can also just say your wake word to start talking without tapping anything, and typing always works too — switch between talking and typing whenever you like.

Voice, likeness & consent

Can QLumis use my own voice?

Yes. You can build a companion that speaks in your own voice from inside the app.

What consent do I need to use another person’s voice?

A voice profile beyond your own requires that person’s consent, authorization, or appropriate legal authority. QLumis is designed for approved voice preservation, not impersonation.

Can someone revoke voice or likeness consent?

Yes. The person whose voice or likeness is preserved can revoke their consent, and voice and likeness data can be deleted from inside the app.

Does QLumis pretend to be another person?

No. QLumis identifies itself as QLumis, even when using an approved voice profile. It does not falsely claim to literally be another human.

Can I use celebrity voices?

No. QLumis is not designed for celebrity voice cloning or unauthorized impersonation.

Are face and avatar features available?

Voice is available today. Face, likeness, and avatar features are rolled out carefully, plan-gated, and subject to the same consent requirements as voice — treat them as optional and forward-looking rather than guaranteed on every plan.

Memory, legacy & ownership

Can I create a QLumis companion for someone who has died?

QLumis can preserve approved memories, stories, and a voice profile as a time capsule, not a resurrection. Using a person’s voice or likeness requires consent given earlier or appropriate legal authority, and a companion never claims to literally be the person it remembers.

Who owns the memories?

The memories you add are yours. You can review, edit, and delete them, subject to the platform’s privacy and retention policies. See our terms for the formal details.

Can I delete all memories?

Yes. You can delete memory, voice, and likeness data from the app, subject to the platform’s privacy and retention policies.

Can I export my memories?

You can review and manage memory content inside the app. For a full data-portability request, contact us and see our privacy notice.

Can multiple family members contribute memories?

Family-oriented plans support multiple personas and trusted contacts so more than one person can help preserve a shared memory, where the people involved have agreed.

What if family members disagree about creating a companion?

QLumis requires consent or appropriate authority for another person’s voice, likeness, or private memories. It is not a tool for acting against someone’s wishes, and disputes about a person’s data should be resolved before a companion is built around them.

What happens to my QLumis account after I die?

Account succession and legacy access are handled under our terms. You can designate trusted contacts inside the app, and for specific arrangements you can contact us.

Care & safety

Can QLumis help someone with dementia?

QLumis can help preserve familiar context, family names, routines, and comforting reminders, which some families find supportive. It is not a medical device or emergency service, and it does not replace clinical care.

Is QLumis a medical device?

No. QLumis is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, or replace professional medical care.

Is QLumis an emergency service? Can QLumis call 911?

No. QLumis is not an emergency response system and cannot call emergency services. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency services.

Can QLumis replace a caregiver?

No. QLumis supports caregivers and care teams; it does not replace them, and it does not replace human supervision or professional caregiving.

Can children use QLumis?

QLumis accounts are for adults. An adult may preserve stories and a voice for children to experience, but children do not hold accounts.

Can I use QLumis in a memory care facility?

With consent from the people involved, yes. For facility-wide deployments, see the Custom plan and contact us.

Sentinel & home awareness

What is QLumis Sentinel?

Sentinel is an always-on home-awareness mode. While you are away, QLumis watches and listens through a device you already own, recognizes the trusted faces and voices it knows, records and snapshots unfamiliar events, and builds a reviewable timeline of what happened — so you can see who came by while you were out.

How is Sentinel different from a security camera?

A security camera records everything and leaves you to scrub the footage. Sentinel is recognition-first: it already knows your trusted people, so it can tell the difference between someone who belongs and someone unfamiliar, and surface the moments that actually matter rather than hours of empty video.

Do I need to buy or install any hardware?

No. There is nothing to plug in and no hardware to buy. Sentinel runs on a device you already have with a camera — a laptop, desktop, tablet, or phone. You open Sentinel, run a quick readiness check, press Activate, position the device, keep it on power, and walk away.

Can I turn Sentinel on and off whenever I want?

Yes. Sentinel runs only while its page is open and releases the camera and microphone the moment you leave it. You can review events, adjust email alerts about unfamiliar people, or turn it off any time from the same page. It cannot run at the same time as a conversation.

Is Sentinel an emergency or security-monitoring service?

No. Sentinel is awareness, not an emergency response or professional monitoring service. It can email you when someone unfamiliar appears, but it does not call emergency services or dispatch help. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency services.

Which plans include Sentinel?

Sentinel is available on the Family plan and above.

Privacy & data

Does QLumis sell my data?

No. QLumis does not sell user data or use your conversations to target advertising.

Are conversations used to train AI models?

QLumis is designed to route sensitive companion content through providers and configurations that do not use your content for vendor-side model training. Workflows that cannot support this posture are not used for sensitive memory features.

Is my data encrypted?

Memory content is encrypted at rest using QLumis-managed encryption secrets.

Is QLumis HIPAA compliant?

QLumis is designed with privacy and security as core posture. Specific regulatory claims for a given workflow should be confirmed with our team in writing.
